We met in 2017 in a fishing tournament out of Avalon, New Jersey. Kate received a phone call from a family friend Bob Himmelreich to fill in for her dad and go offshore fishing early the next morning. Knowing she had never been deep-sea fishing, Bob warned her about the rough seas and that she would be stuck out there all day even if she got sea-sick, she disregarded his warning and he said "ok wear something you don't care about, see you the dock at 1:30 am". The next morning, or late night? Kate threw on some sweats and an old beat-up Faceplant Boardriders hoodie...as she walked onto the boat and met Ricky there was an instant connection. He asked "where'd you get that hoodie from" thinking she had just stolen it from his collection downstairs. Kate explained that an old friend of hers at Coastal Carolina knew these two guys who started their own company. Not even finished her sentence yet, Ricky interrupted to tell her "that's mine and my brother's company". The day went on and Ricky was "super impressed" by Kate's angler skills having never had fished before. After catching a few Tunas, Kate went to sit and chat with Ricky on the bridge of the boat. Laughing and flirting for an hour so (caught on camera by bob, see below) they completely hit it off. They won the tournament that day and went on to spend the rest of the summer getting to know each other and "never having a bad day together".
