As a Sophomore in high school, word got out that there was a cute new kid from California. Naturally, all the girls swooned over this tall, tanned, jock- and I was one of them! We all knew him as "Sunshine" because of his contagious smile, but when we passed silently in the hallway every day for a year and a half, that smile was especially directed towards me. You may have heard rumors about me figuring out where he lived and trying my hardest to be anywhere I thought he might be so we could "run into each other" (as long as my hair and makeup looked good), and I can 1,000 percent guarantee that was all true. After many months of trying to have an excuse to talk to this guy, it all fell into place thanks to a mutual friend who finally arranged for our paths to meet. In December of 2014, Sunshine and I went on our first date, and we have been inseparable ever since. We have managed to withstand losses, moves, transitions and life developments to finally get to this point... our wedding. After five and a half years of dating, in the summer of 2020, we got engaged, and now we are preparing for the best day of our lives, one we have waited on since we first met. I would say we are your typical high school sweetheart story with a happy ending, however this isn't the end, it's the beginning of our life as Mr. and Mrs. Vierra! #HappilyVierraAfter
On June 25, 2020 Richie got down on one knee and asked one of the biggest questions one can ask in their lifetime. Even though this was monumental, I had no doubt as to what my answer would be. Early that morning I went to Palestine with my mom and my aunt for a girls day trip, while Richie and my dad went to Tyler to play golf. Though us girls were unsuspecting, the men-folk had a different plan. While we were off shopping and gorging ourselves with pie samples, the guys were having serious conversations about a big white wedding. Even though Richie is not originally from the south, he respectfully asked for my Daddy's permission before asking me to marry him. When he asked the first big question to my dad, my dad hit him. No, not like he was mad! He hit him in the chest and with a huge smile said, "I'm so proud of you." Later that afternoon when I returned to our house on Lake Jacksonville, Richie took me out on the deck, got down on one knee, and asked me to be his wife. For anyone that doesn't know this already, I am not an overly emotional person, however when I took one look at my ring and the sight of him down on his knee asking for my hand, I cried for quite some time. The tears of joy continued when we spent the next week traveling to the homes of friends and family to share our great news with them in person! Due to the Corona Virus there were some that had to find out through text or video, but the joy filled everyone's hearts- especially mine! #HappilyVierraAfter
When Richie and I first got engaged, I stared at my new piece of jewelry in awe for weeks. Not just because of how shiny and perfect it was, but also because of the story behind the heirloom. The solitaire diamond was my grandmother's ring that my grandfather bought her for Christmas one year. After she passed away in 2016, my Aunt Cathy asked Richie if he would like to have the ring for the future. A few years down the road Richie decided to take a look at the ring and begin planning for our future. Unknown to me, the majority of my family either knew there was a ring, knew Richie had a ring, or even passed the ring around to keep it out of my nosy hands. After I was given the ring it all came out in the wash, and I had mixed emotions. For one, I felt bewildered because my family had been swindling me, especially when I grilled them on if they knew anything or not, but I also felt overwhelmed by the love that my family has for Richie and I because even from an early age they could recognize how we felt about each other. Just before Richie presented the ring to me, he had the diamond removed from my grandmother's setting and put into a setting that matched my Pinterest board that I had set up for him years ago (Go me!). When he first proposed I didn't look at the ring because I was more interested in the fact that I get to be his fiancé, but once he slid the ring onto my finger it was like the world stopped turning because I was exactly where I needed to be. That ring was made for me long before I was ever born, and even more impressive, Richie and I were made for each other as well.
