Boiling Crab is our favorite restaurant! It’s a Vietnamese-owned chain that serves Cajun-style seafood brought to you in a bag! Order everything with the whole shabang sauce and be sure to try the fried oysters. Prepare to get messy eating with your hands and there’s always a wait, but it’s worth it!
When in L.A., one must grab an In-N-Out burger. Our go-to is the double-double with grilled onions and pickles, extra crispy fries and a shake. Be sure to ask for Spread to dip your fries into and if you want to get fancy, get animal-style fries.
Universal City Walk (for shopping & restaurants) and Universal Studios Hollywood are just a matter of minutes away from the Burbank airport. The park includes Harry Potter World, the new Mario Bros Land and of course the classics like the Studio Lot Tour, Water World Show and Jurassic World ride. But our personal favorites are the Transformer and Mummy rides. You can see the whole park in 1 day, just wear comfortable shoes! Purchase tickets via the Universal Studios app for better rates.
An L.A. staple with multiple locations, Porto’s is a Cuban bakery and cafe that is an absolute must! They have tons of pastries, desserts and sandwiches that you’ll absolutely love. Trust us when we say that every single thing on the menus is delicious and incredibly affordable. Try their famous potato balls, cheese rolls and guava strudels. If you’re there before 11am, try their breakfast wrap. Don’t be intimidated by the long line as it moves fast! There’s a reason why it’s always packed.
Burbank is media city where TV shows and movies are made! If you want a taste of Hollywood, check out the Warner Brothers Studio Lot Tour where you can step onto TV sets and learn how movies are made. You can visit Central Perk and even sit on the couch from Friends. There are rotating exhibits all the time. Book your tickets online!
BeaBeas is our local favorite Brunch spot! There are 2 locations, one in Burbank and one in Glendale. Trust us when we say that you must order their Gluten-Free pancakes or waffles. Even if you don’t eat gluten-free, it tastes better than a regular pancake. They have daily specials and everything is delicious!
We love some good Boba! Visit Teaspoon on the 3rd floor on the Burbank Mall in downtown Burbank for some fresh delicious boba. They also have a Glendale location. It’s Boba Time is also good with lots of options just down the street in downtown Burbank.
There are a gagillion independent coffee shops in Burbank alone, but one of Vy’s personal favorites is Romancing the Bean. They have a great chai and a delicious quinoa pesto breakfast bowl and pastries if you’re hungry. It’s a cute coffee shop in the Magnolia Park neighborhood in Burbank. Magnolia Blvd. is a walkable street with several vintage and coffee shops. Porto’s is also walking distance if you’d like to visit both!
Want to do some shopping? The Americana is a popular outdoor shopping center with great photo opps, shops and large fountain. It’s also across the street from the Glendale Galleria Mall which is a huge mall with plenty of restaurants and shops. We recommend parking at the mall for free parking.
If you’re willing to drive in traffic at least an hour to Anaheim, Disneyland and California Adventure Park are always a good time! Be sure to purchase your tickets online in advance and get there before the parks open to allow time for parking. Disneyland now has the amazing Star Wars Land and California Adventure Park has the Marvel Campus. The Rise of Resistance, Space Mountain and the Incredicoaster rides are a must! And be sure to get the famous fried chicken at the Plaza Inn and a Dol whip!
If you want to get the ultimate tourist experience, head down to Hollywood and Highland. There you will see the Hollywood walk of fame, Dolby theater where the Oscars are filmed, a view of the Hollywood Sign, El Capitan Entertainment Center where Jimmy Kimmel is filmed, many tourist shops and museums as well. You can take the metro from the Universal Studios metro station directly there to avoid traffic because Hollywood is always busy!
Burbank Empire Center has all your favorite shops in one plaza if you want to spend too much money unnecessarily. There’s a Target, Nordstrom Rack, TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, Michael’s, Sephora, ULTA, Lowe’s and Best Buy all next to each other. There are also plenty of restaurants, Starbucks and Nothing Bundt Cakes. Yum!
