Ricky and Cassie met through mutual friends during the summer of 2017. At the time, Cassie had just finished her first year at UCLA studying political science, while Ricky was wrapping up his second year at Cal State LA, majoring in biology. After just three months of dating, they realized it was something special—it didn’t take long before they exchanged their first “I love you” and made their relationship official. After finishing undergrad, they both applied to Teach for America, starting their teaching careers while also pursuing their master’s degrees at Loyola Marymount University—Ricky teaching biology, and Cassie working in special education. Over the years, they supported each other through long nights of lesson planning, academic challenges, and the ups and downs of early adulthood. Throughout it all, their faith and friendship remained the foundation of their relationship. At the six-and-a-half-year mark, Ricky felt called by God to propose. On a crisp October afternoon in 2023, at beautiful June Lake, Ricky got down on one knee. What Cassie didn’t know was that Ricky’s younger brother Emmanuel was quietly hiding in the trees, capturing the whole moment. Ricky had been planning this surprise for nearly two years—and even wore a hidden mic to make sure every word was caught. While Cassie wasn’t exactly surprised (she had a pretty good idea it was coming!), she was still filled with joy as she said yes to spending the rest of her life with Ricky. Ricky and Cassie are so excited to celebrate their love and commitment this November with their closest family and friends. They’re looking forward to everything the future holds. Traveling together. Growing in their careers and faith. Building a family. And most importantly, growing old side by side with God at the center of their relationship.
