Maine has always been a special place for Becca and Colin, but for different reasons. Becca spent a lot of time camping in Weld, Maine, and Rangeley was always her favorite spot for a pizza and ice cream stop when campfire food got boring. In 2019, when her parents bought a lake house in the town of Rangeley, Becca and her mom daydreamed, "how fun would it be to spend one last summer in Maine?" So, she took the jump to come home from grad school to wait tables at Portage Tap House for the summer. Spoiler alert: it was not just the summer. Colin's family has vacationed in Rangeley, Maine for over 50 years. He chose to attend Bowdoin College making the big move across the country from Washington. After college, Colin moved to Boston, but took every opportunity he had to travel up to Maine with friends. This involved a lot of long days either out on the boat or the snowmobile trails with friends (and probably a few too many cocktails). When COVID hit, Colin took the opportunity to spend his time out of the city and move in with his parents in Rangeley. Both living at home for what they thought was going to be a quick "shut down," Becca and Colin were not looking for any new love interests. Their parents, however, had a slightly different idea. The night before the 4th of July, Laura sat Colin and his friends in Becca's section, asking Becca if she wouldn't mind just taking one more table... "It's just my son and his friends, no big deal!" Colin sat quietly in the back hoping he'd have Becca as his server another time. Later that night, Paul casually threw out the idea of Becca going out on the lake with Colin and his friends, just something to do since she was new to the area... all the while hoping Becca and Colin would connect. After a day out on the lake with Colin and his Bowdoin friends, Becca could just tell that Colin was someone special. Not as special as Poppy and Summer - the golden girls and professional divers for tennis balls - of course, but a close second. Colin waited until his friends had gone back to Boston to text Becca: "Hey, since we are both up here in Maine with nothing to do, do you want to go on a hike or something?" The two of them met up, went for a little jaunt to the top of Bald Mountain. They (Becca) were talking nonstop and realizing they had so much in common. Except for skiing... Colin's direct quote was: "Oh yeah, I guess I like to ski sometimes." (Trying so hard to play it cool with his ski obsession). It wasn't long before they were inseparable, constantly planning their next adventure or next trip. It was a whirlwind of a summer with countless sunsets, hikes, waterfall swims, lake swims, boating adventures, and more. And it wasn't long before Becca made the decision to stay in Rangeley. Summer turned into fall, winter (with many ski adventures), and spring. After months of hyping up Seattle and the beautiful Pacific Northwest, Colin convinced Becca it was a good idea to tow her car behind a Budget moving truck with all their belongings for a new adventure out West. The trip across I-90 put their relationship to the test and built some lifelong memories. When they reached the Puget Sound, they found themselves at home together.
