In Washington DC, while playing flag football in a popular social league known as PBF Sports in the Summer of 2017, Ka'Shawn and Renisha were complete strangers. As the games ended and people were packing up to leave Ka'Shawn noticed Renisha's Sigma Gamma Rho lanyard. As a brother of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., he introduced himself as her Indy and from there they went their separate ways. On occasion they would run into each other but the two never officially came together again until January of 2018. It was then, as the two were playing football that Ka'Shawn asked Renisha to play on his team for a tournament in Philly. Renisha gladly accepted and began practicing with his team, The Wave. While practicing and having free time afterwards, Ka'Shawn extended the invite to Renisha to grab a bite to eat. The two began to hangout often after joining forces on the field and even found themselves as Captain and Co-Captain of Team Kaepernick at the Black Bar Crawl in late February of 2018. By that time the two were comfortable enough to call each other friends as life continued. After losing the tournament in a dramatic fashion and a quick trip to church together, their friendship grew stronger. By April of 2018 they became a hot commodity while traveling and making memories together. Their love for each other and football blossomed into what you see today. From the love you see displayed in viral photos to the warmth you feel in your heart when you see them together, love won this battle and they are on a mission to keep God first and remember that love and football is what brought them together.
