On a balmy evening in June, Renee ventured to the local carnival with her dear friend Finn. While enjoying the intoxicating scent of funnel cakes and hot dogs, Renee noticed Finn’s girlfriend, Sarah, on the Ferris wheel with a beautiful mystery girl by her side. Jo’s curls bounced in the moonlight while she laughed at some joke that Sarah made and it was in that moment that Renee knew, she had to meet this girl. Finn caught Renee admiring Jo and offered to introduce them but Renee was ready to take matters into her own hands. She jumped onto the Ferris wheel, scaling it until she was hanging from the carriage that Jo was sitting in. Renee proceeded to ask Jo on a date, even suggesting that she would let go and plummet to her death if Jo refused her. Jo of course accepted Renee’s request (forceful demand?) which led to a steamy summer in love. Just kidding, we met on Tinder.
For our first date, Renee was still in Westminster while Jo was in Windsor. We met at Big Red Barn liquors in Johnstown (before Buc-ee's) so Jo could show Renee around Fort Collins. We went to a restaurant where Renee was talking so quietly Jo had to smile and nod at points, then ended the night at Holiday Twin Drive In. Immediately following this date we knew that we were an Exclusive Item.
Alyssa and I travel up the mountains to Frisco every year to celebrate the start of the Christmas season at the town's Wassail Days. I knew this was where I would propose since the following year's celebration. I had to hide Alyssa's ring in a variety of unusual places on the way up to Frisco, including a pair of shoes! The day of, I hid the ring in my thick jacket's pocket and spent the whole day an arm's length away from Alyssa, terrified she might see. As the night went on, we got ready for our favorite tradition; the annual tree lighting ceremony. As we listened to the carolers, I looked over my shoulder to see my photographer was in place. The tree was lit, the fireworks had just finished, and now was my chance! I took Alyssa strolling around, looking for the perfect place to propose while trying to be (painfully) discreet. I suggested I get a few photos of her in front of the lights, including a "candid," where I made her turn around. I unzipped my jacket and grabbed the ring as quick as I could, and took my spot on one knee on the snowy ground. When she turned around, she couldn't believe it! After she said yes, we turned around to see a whole crowd of people surrounding us and watching. One even shouted "Did she say yes?" and we celebrated together with a group of warm and welcoming strangers. We spent the night walking about, in a daze, and celebrated at the restaurant we went to our first year in Frisco. We were surprised by the amount of people who saw the engagement and congratulated us!
