Why not? But honestly, Mexico is absolutely gorgeous and the locals are some of the most hospitable people you'll ever meet. We began traveling to Mexico initially because of the convenience and lower cost, but we fell in love with the culture, architecture, and of course--the food. Mexico is full of natural beauty and this region of the Yucatán Peninsula is no exception. Once you've wadded in the warm, crystal blue waters, dug your toes in the white sand, and explored the lush jungles that provide refuge for wildlife, you will understand why we've chosen Mexico.
Akumal is a smaller coastal town on the Yucatan Peninsula. Akumal is about an hour and a half south of Cancun and 30 minutes north of Tulum.
Akumal is one of the safest places to travel in Mexico. This region receives over 5.6 million American tourists and has multiple resorts, hotels, and gated communities that provide additional layers of security. We've been to this area multiple times and have never had any issues. Our advice for traveling anywhere: be aware of your surroundings, use common sense, and respect the locals. Tourism is a major source of income for many locals, so most residents are committed to ensuring visitors continue to travel to the region.
Our marriage celebration will be hosted at a private villa in Soliman Bay. Soliman Bay is in between Akumal and Tulum, so the question you need to ask yourself is "what is my vibe for this trip?" Akumal is a smaller town surrounded by resorts that provide tranquility and privacy. Tulum has gained popularity within the last few years and is more of a lively, touristy, bohemian town that can get crowded during high season.
