Many of the museums in DC are free. You can visit the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, the National Gallery of Art, International Spy Museum, the United States Holocaust Museum, and one of our favorites, the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.
Mount Vernon is beautiful during this time of year. They typically have live demonstrations on how life on the farm was like when George Washington lived there. There are always animals to see during the fall as well.
More than three million people visit Arlington National Cemetery each year. Many come to pay respects at graveside services, or to visit a loved one's final resting place. Please remember that Arlington is an active cemetery — a place of honor, grieving and reflection. We ask that visitors abide by the following guidelines. The military guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is changed in an elaborate ceremony which happens every hour on the hour from October 1 through March 31, and every half hour from April 1 through September 30.
