With 700 private acres perched at the top of a quiet mountain road, a picturesque lake, miles of trails, and a full host of activities, there are plenty of things to do at the Mountain Top Inn. Long Trail Brewery offers a seasonally rotating menu featuring locally-sourced ingredients and beer fresh from the source. With a deck overlooking the Ottauquechee River, this is a great spot to spend the afternoon, grab lunch, and try one (or all!) of the ales on tap, brewed exclusively for the pub.
Just a 15 minute drive down the hill from the Mountain Top, this classic Vermont spot serves all-day breakfast in a rustic, working sugar house. Stock up on maple goodies at the gift shop, and be sure to try Rachel and Mike's favorite items on the menu — the sugar & spice and pumpkin pancakes!
This local favorite is a great spot for late lunch or dinner. Overlooking Summit Pond, The Foundry offers delicious food and live music. Their cocktail menu includes a Mike-approved Manhattan, and you can even order "tableside s’mores," complete with a flame to roast your marshmallow for dessert!
If you're looking for a spot to grab dinner or drinks in Rutland, Roots offers an eclectic farm-to-table menu. They have a tent with outdoor seating, and plenty of room indoors as well — including a large bar area serving up inventive cocktails.
Rachel's hometown is just 45 minutes north of Chittenden! Home to Middlebury College and lots of charming restaurants and shops, be sure to make the trip if you have time. Favorite locally owned and operated restaurants include Fire & Ice (opt for their famous salad bar, and don't miss the Monument Farms chocolate milk on tap!) and Two Brothers Tavern. On Main Street, stop into Sweet Cecily for Vermont-made treasures and souvenirs.
Woodstock, VT is a quintessential New England town just down the road (okay, that's by Vermont standards — it's 30 minutes) from Killington. The picturesque Main Street is full of local shops, restaurants and places to explore; be sure to stop by FH Gillingham & Sons, a general store that first opened in 1886, and the Woodstock Farmers Market for great local flavors. Worthy Kitchen has the best burgers in town, and Billings Farm & Museum is a fully-operational dairy farm and a great place to bring the kids!
