One afternoon in the summer of 2018, Reed found himself wasting his day away on the couch, feeling lethargic after a hard morning workout. A friend had asked if he wanted to go for a hike with him, his girlfriend, and a few of her single friends. Despite him emphasizing SINGLE, Reed initially declined the invitation. Fortunately for Reed, the group was meeting at his house to carpool to the trailhead. As soon as Christine walked through his front door, Reed was smitten. He popped off the couch, and was suddenly the most excited person in the room for the hike. After an afternoon spent hiking, laughing, and getting to know one another, Reed & Christine were sure they wanted to keep spending time together. The two went on a few runs together with mutual friends, until Reed plucked up the courage to ask Christine out for sushi. Christine accepted, though she admits that she wasn't quite sure whether it was a date or a friendly gesture. Two hours into conversation and chop-sticking, she found herself hoping that it was, in fact, a date. Reed naively assumed it was a date the whole time. They extended their evening as long as they could, puttering up and down Pearl Street Mall in Boulder a full three times. Christine (a self-proclaimed dessert-hater) even entertained Reed's proposal to stop for gelato, a true sign to anyone who knows her that she was enjoying herself. By the end of the night, they both realized that this was the best first date they'd ever had. A few months later, after many more sushi nights, gelato scoops, and conversations, Reed & Christine made things official and have never looked back. In September 2020, Reed & Christine returned to the location of the fateful first hike. But this time, Reed carried with him a small box, a full heart, and an important question for Christine. Surrounded by their family who travelled from Minnesota for the occasion, Reed asked Christine to marry him, and the rest—as they say—is history.
