Location & Travel Info

Travel Note

Heartwood

The wedding will take place at Heartwood, at 40500 Little Lake Road, about a 10-minute drive inland from the town of Mendocino. The venue is surrounded by redwoods and is generally warmer and less windy than the town. All wedding events will be outside, and the ground is mostly dirt and grass, so please dress accordingly. If you want to wear heels, we recommend block heels or platforms, not stilettos. Parking onsite is somewhat limited. Please carpool if you can! On the day of the wedding, we will have shuttle service 4-5pm and then 10pm-3am between Heartwood and the town of Mendocino, where there is ample free parking. Shuttle pick up and drop off location: 45062 Ukiah St, Mendocino, CA 95460 (Partners Gallery) There is little to no cell phone service and no wifi at Heartwood.

Travel Note

Mendocino

The weather in Mendocino is typically cold and windy, even in August. We recommend bringing warm layers and checking the weather forecast. Mendocino is in a rural area, and the town is small and quaint. Cell phone reception can be spotty and unreliable -- be prepared to not have service!

Flight

Flying

The nearest major airports are San Francisco (SFO) and Oakland (OAK) in the Bay Area, about 3.5 hours from Mendocino by car.

Rental Car

Driving

There are no convenient public transportation options in the Mendocino area. We recommend booking a rental car from SFO or OAK and coordinating carpools with fellow wedding guests. If you are a Costco member, we recommend booking a rental car through Costco Travel. Driving from San Francisco or Oakland to Mendocino takes about 3.5 hours without much stopping or traffic. We recommend giving yourself more time to make stops and enjoy the scenery along the way. Once you get off Highway 101 North, some parts of the drive are on narrow and winding mountain roads -- we recommend doing the drive during daylight hours. Also, parts of it are really beautiful!

House Or Rental

Accommodations

The town of Mendocino is small and rural. Accommodations are limited and tend to book up quickly in the summer, so we recommend making your reservations ASAP! There are several small, historic inns and bed & breakfast accommodations in town. There are no chain hotels in the area. One of our favorite B&Bs to stay in town is the Joshua Grindle Inn. There are plenty of houses in the area that you can rent via Airbnb or VRBO.
