Camp Wigwam, which was founded in 1910, was bought by the Strauss Family (Ned and Helen Strauss) in 1965 and has remained in the Strauss family ever since. Rachel's parents Jane and Bob Strauss, have owned and operated the camp for over 50 years and more recently just handed over the reigns to its new Director/Owner just in the past year. The Strauss family grew up full-time on the camp grounds and can't wait to welcome new and old visitors to this magical place!
You will be welcomed by staff members at the Camp Wigwam gate who will direct you where to park. All guests will be provided with a map of camp with bunk locations. Most cabins you can pull a car up to and unload. Cars will be parked for the weekend in a private lot adjacent to camp.
No! Camp has everything. Rackets, balls, bats, gloves, skis, sticks etc. If you feel strongly about bringing your own gear, feel free, but no need to travel with extra stuff. Please do bring your own athletic clothing. We recommend something you'll be comfortable running/walking around in, going on a hike in and something to swim in and a bath towel.
Color War is an inter-camp competition. Camp is split into two teams, in our case: bride vs groom, to compete in various events. Relay races, tug of war, kickball, knockout, volleyball...you name it! All are welcome to compete for weekend bragging rights.
Daytime Attire: We're hoping for beautiful summer weather so athleisure or casual summer outfits are recommended. Don't forget to bring your own bathing suit and beach towel! Wedding Attire: Cocktail attire (short or long dresses, suits, etc). For those of you wearing heels, block heels or flats are recommended as the camp grounds are a bit uneven! Evening: Nights in Maine can get chilly so bring a shawl/jacket for the evening functions and layers to sleep in just in case!
While Wigwam is literally the perfect place for children, we ask that they stay at home for this camp session. We hope that by keeping the entire weekend adults only, everyone will fully be able to relax and participate in everything that camp and the surrounding area have to offer. *Interested in sending your child to a great camp? Check out the Camp Wigwam website (www.campwigwam.com) and be sure to talk to Director Neal Goldberg at the wedding event for more details!
