It was my first day of freshman year of high school and my first day of public school ever. I was as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs and sitting in the corner by myself. Samantha sat next to me and said, “Let’s be best friends!” Best friends we became and best friends we’ve remained. 13 years later and we have an unbreakable bond and countless memories (both embarrassing and non).

We spend our time together binge eating while watching movies in bed and laying out by the pool with a nice cold one (Root beer) for 5 minutes before we decide it’s too hot out and return to watching movies in bed. We went through fire academy together and we were always pushing each other to do more and do better. After finishing academy we got put out into the streets on the same shift at stations bordering each other. He helped me land on my feet in Georgia when I had nobody to turn to. We became inseparable, from probies, to firemen, to roommates, to drinking buddies, to best friends.

Lampkin came to my station straight out of training and I took him under my wing. I saw a lot of me in him since hes eager to learn, quick on his feet, and has a genuine interest in firefighting. Hes been my go-to guy for a lot.

My first friend in Georgia. We met in training for fire academy. After about 2 weeks of training, he commented on my motorcycle and we got to talking. We would go out and grab beers and hang out on the weekends after school. He's one of the first people I told when I knew I was proposing.
