Flight

Portland International Airport/ Logan International Airport

If flying is how you're getting to Maine (thank you so much for traveling!) the most direct route is to fly into Portland, Maine. You may find however that prices are noticeably cheaper by flying into Logan International Airport in Boston, MA. It's about a 3 hour bus ride/car ride from Boston to our location in Maine and buses are incredibly easy to catch at Logan- so if it saves some money, it's something to consider.

Hotel

Quality Suites

500 U.S. 1
Freeport, ME 04032
 (207) 536-5568

We've had a frustrating time finding a good deal for our folks from out of town (which lets face it, is pretty much everyone!) We found this to be the most affordable deal for the Holiday weekend and we have stayed here before with a clean room and a nice pool. This is where Mike and I will be staying and I presume much of the bridal party. Love to have everyone join, but book early! We got our deal through hotels.com

Hotel

Super 8 by Wyndham Freeport Brunswick Area

506 U.S. 1
Freeport, ME 04032
 (207) 865-1408

We've stayed at tons of hotels in Maine over the years- and if it's basic, budget friendly accommodations you're looking for, this is it. Mike and I have stayed here many times and we've never had a bad experience. With either a king size bed or two doubles- it's great for couples or families. They have a free (and actually quite good) continental breakfast in the morning which I'd recommend using (hello, free waffles!) They are also right across from the Maine Beer Co- a great craft beer place to check out. Many times Mike and I have just walked across the street- Designated Driver problem solved! This hotel is about 5 mins from downtown Freeport- so there's TONS of shopping within moments reach (see Things to do for more details). The only thing that this hotel doesn't have is a pool.

Hotel

Best Western Freeport Inn, U.S. 1, Freeport, ME, USA

31 U.S. 1
Freeport, ME 04032
 (207) 865-3106

This is another budget friendly hotel- we like the super 8 better BUT this hotel is ok with 2 pets up to 80 pounds per room for a small fee. Close to shopping with a free breakfast, if Fido is part of your weekend plans, this is a good option.

Hotel

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Freeport - Brunswick Area

450 U.S. 1
Freeport, ME 04032
 (207) 865-0110

This is a bit less "budget" than the Super 8 hotel; it too has a continental breakfast which is quite good (more offerings than the Super 8) and the rooms are a bit bigger. The big bonus of this hotel- they have an indoor pool which if you're traveling with kids, can be a great bonus. We always check to see what the price is of this hotel on the weekend we're traveling- sometimes it's almost twice that of the Super 8 in which case we tend to not book it- but other times it's within about $20 a night difference in which case it's definitely worth it.

Hotel

Hilton Garden Inn Freeport Downtown

5 Park Street
Freeport, ME 04032
 (207) 865-1433

Back in the good ole' days when my parents paid the bill, this was my hotel of choice, It's right in downtown Freeport, so you can walk to the shops and eateries and then head back to your hotel without ever getting in your car. This is the nicest hotel that is a chain type hotel in the area. Its indoor pool and hottub are quite relaxing and parking is never an issue. They do not however have a free continental breakfast- they have an overpriced (in my opinion) breakfast buffet that you can pay for, however with Frostys Donuts (see Things to do) less than two blocks away, who really cares?

Hotel

Harraseeket Inn

162 Main Street
Freeport, ME 04032
 (207) 865-9377

For guests wishing for some local charm with a gorgeous atmosphere, this inn has it all. While it will certainly cost you- this hotel offers two fabulous restaurants (one is fine dining, the other a tavern (no suit, but dress shirt recommended) and a wonderful indoor pool. It's on Main St in Freeport- so walk outside and start shopping! If money was of no consideration, this would certainly be my choice.

House Or Rental

Air BnB/ Home Away

If you're traveling with a larger group of people or want a more unique experience, Air BnB and HomeAway both offer plenty of affordable (and not so affordable) options. Just be sure to note the location and any hidden "service" fees that they might include. The wedding is in Gray, Maine which is about a 20 min (14 mile) drive to Freeport, Maine.

Travel Note

Getting Around Maine

If you're arriving in Maine without a car you'll likely be using Uber or taxis to get around. You can also easily rent a car and we'd probably recommend that you do. Maine is a large state and if you're at all looking to see any of it's sights, you'll likely find yourself commuting. Public transportation is limited, so take that into account when looking for a place to stay. You'll note that while the wedding festivities are in Gray, Maine that we've recommended lodging in Freeport, Maine. We've done this because while Gray is beautiful, it's more of a backwoods location without a lot of restaurants or "fun" activities to do. By staying closer to Freeport, you'll be able to have a fun wedding AND a fun weekend.

Hotel

Camping at Stonehedge

The farm that we are having our event at offers camping for under $30 a night; if you're a couple looking for a fun, alternative experience this certainly could be it; it's certainly the most affordable way to go. Just remember, it gets cold at night.

For all the days along the way
