Tons and tons of outlet priced shopping, need we say more? Parking is abundant.
Best Donuts you may have ever had, period. Right near L.L. Bean, you'll probably end up grabbing a whole box to bring home (not that we've ever done that or anything.)
A really pretty beach town with lots of little "local" shops, this will give you the feeling of Maine without the business of prime tourism season like it might in the summer. It is about 50 mins south of Freeport, so either make it a destination on your way up OR a destination on your way home if you're driving.
If you're looking for a nice dinner out this would be one of our top choices; it's in the Harraseeket Inn, so if you want to check out the place with out the big bill this is the way to do it! The food is excellent.
Linda Bean (relative of you guessed it, L.L. Bean) has opened up a great lunch/dinner spot directly across the street from L.L. Bean. It's hard to find great food in downtown Freeport (lots of tourist based stuff) and this restaurant is one we go back to year, after year. Make sure to get some of their molasses bread (brown bread)- you won't be dissapointed.
A beautiful country drive yet minutes away from everything you'd possibly want, this local farm and estuary has beautiful trails and endless photo opportunities.
Bar Harbor is hours up north, but if you're looking to extend your stay by a day or two it's well worth the drive. The trails and views are extraordinary and the wildlife is secondary only to Alaska.
A wonderful place to explore (and sample!) some of the best jams and jellies around!
We go here almost everytime we're on our way up- it's about an hour away from Freeport- so go on your way up or on your way home. Classic diner food with Maine hospitality (it's also super well known). Highly recommend their clam chowder.
