We met through my best friend and best man, Dalton. It was August of 2018, and our apartment complex was hosting a mixer where neighbors could get to know one another, play games, and enjoy a few drinks while celebrating new friendships. I was in the middle of watching Pearl Harbor for the first time and had just made one of my favorite batches of queso—because everyone loves queso. Dalton called to ask if I was coming down to the mixer, and I said yes. When I got there, I joined him for cocktails and food. Dalton was sitting at a high-top table with a group of friends, most of whom worked for Chevron or were engineers. He asked if anyone there wasn’t an engineer. Rebekah immediately stood out and said, “Not me—I’m a nurse at Baton Rouge General.” Dalton quickly put two and two together and said, “Oh, my friend Cody is a nurse! He’s right over there playing pool.” Rebekah came over, and that’s where her love for playing pool began. Cody showed her the game and taught her all the tips and tricks he knew that night. When the mixer ended, he asked her if she wanted to come upstairs to finish watching Pearl Harbor and eat queso. She said yes. A few years later, we moved to Saint Martinville, where we started building our family. During the COVID years, we welcomed our first dog, Millie, who grew up chasing the wind. Thanks to Calen and Erica, we were able to stay in our Saint Martinville apartment rent-free, which allowed us to buy our first home in Lafayette. To this day, we miss the country more than anything. A couple of years after buying our home, we added our second furry family member—Gracie, our Golden Retriever—in 2022. Life moved quickly as we worked at different locations as registered nurses, but along the way we made some of the closest friends we’ll ever have. On January 21, 2024, while Cody was cleaning up in the bathroom, Rebekah walked in holding a positive pregnancy test—and the rest was history. Now we have a beautiful baby girl, Emilianna Rae Gondran, who loves her sisters Gracie and Millie, loves Bluey, and is endlessly curious about the world around her. In September of 2025, we got engaged at our home during Emilianna’s birthday celebration. And now, here we are—fulfilling our dream and preparing to be married in the Catholic Church.
