Jodrell Bank is an active deep space observatory with an associated visitors centre with exhibitions on the history of the telescope, a clockwork Orrery (working model of the solar system) and science exhibits. There are lovely grounds and a café on site so plenty for the family.
If your looking for shopping, a day out with the kids or just a massive choice in somewhere to eat the Trafford Centre is worth a visit. It is one of the largest shopping centres in the country and also houses both Legoland and the Sea Life Aquarium. Adjacent is a large indoor snow ski slope and indoor skydiving.

Open to the public since 1997, you can visit and explore a Cold Ward nuclear bunker. Hack Green was one of 21 fixed radar stations in the country and one of only 12 fully equipped with searchlights and fighter aircraft control.
