Rebecca & John

Things To Do

D.C. is more than politics, policies, and polarizing presidents. Much more. Here are a few of Rebecca and John's favorite things to do in our nation's capital that don't involve museums or monuments.
The Fish Market

The Fish Market

1100 Maine Avenue Southwest, Washington, DC 20024

One of Rebecca and John's early date spots—and a D.C. staple. Great for blue crab, shrimp, and any other seafood you can imagine. Always fresh. Get it cooked on the spot, sprinkle some Old Bay seasoning on it, and eat it near the water. Afterwards, check out the shops and views of The Wharf, one of D.C.'s newest destinations.

National Arboretum

National Arboretum

3501 New York Avenue Northeast, Washington, DC 20002
, (202) 544-8733

A true D.C. gem and another one of Rebecca and John's early date spots. It's a bit out of the way, but that's the point. You won't believe you're still in D.C.

Union Market

Union Market

1309 5th Street Northeast, Washington, DC 20002
, (301) 347-3998

A common food, movie, and everything else spot for Rebecca and John. There's always something to eat and do here. It's also where Rebecca and John saw their first movie together—"Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl."

Busboys and Poets

Busboys and Poets

450 K Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20001
, (202) 789-2227

A great spot for coffee, brunch, and books. John and Rebecca took her parents here. Everyone approved.

Ethiopic Restaurant

Ethiopic Restaurant

401 H Street Northeast, Washington, DC 20002
, (202) 675-2066

Rebecca had never had Ethiopian food before John took her here. Fun fact: D.C. is home to one of the largest Ethiopian populations outside the country itself. There's no shortage of Ethiopian food in The District.

Toki Underground

Toki Underground

1234 H Street Northeast, Washington, DC 20002
, (202) 388-3086

Some of D.C.'s best ramen, located in the neighborhood where John used to live. While you're there, take a stroll down H Street, grab a drink at one of the many bars, and admire the more eclectic, artsier side of the city.

DC Comedy Loft and Bier Baron Tavern

DC Comedy Loft and Bier Baron Tavern

1523 22nd Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20037
, (202) 293-1887

A cozy dive with one of the best craft beer selections in the Mid Atlantic. And not to mention, live comedy.

Meridian Hill Park

Meridian Hill Park

W Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20009
, (202) 895-6000

Not only is it a quiet oasis in the city, but on Sundays, there's a weekly drum circle. It's a great way to get a taste of the community, and recharge for the week ahead.
