Van Galder is a bus that goes from Chicago to Rockford, Illinois. It is a cheaper alternative than renting a car. For $50.45, you can get a round-trip ticket or for $28.20 one-way. The ticket is good for any time on their schedule they have posted on their website. You can also buy your tickets on the link I provided.

O'Hare is an hour away from Rockford, IL which is the bigger city outside of Byron, IL.

Chicago Midway is another airport option, but it is farther. Sometimes Midway can be cheaper than O'Hare, but it depends on days and times.
