Alex worked with Rebecca's aunt and uncle, and as they got to know each other, Rebecca's uncle became convinced that Alex and Rebecca would be a great fit. He insisted that they meet. For three years, Rebecca and Alex politely declined. Then, in a last ditch effort, her uncle orchestrated a plan to get them to meet. Rebecca and Alex were invited to his retirement party. Unaware of the plan in place, they finally met, where they joke that they were "Reverse Parent Trapped". Conversation freely flowed, they kept in touch, and began dating. Trying to play it cool, they found excuses to be each other's cities, including concerts and a sorority sister's dog's birthday party. Before long, they couldn't imagine their life apart from one another. They adopted their dog, Carl, and got engaged. Two and a half years after they were tricked into meeting each other, they couldn't be more excited to celebrate their union with y'all!

On a vacation to the bay area in California to visit some of Rebecca's family, the couple explored wine country, San Francisco, and the surrounding areas. Rebecca had mentioned she's always wanted to walk among the redwood trees. So, Alex made plans to take her on a hike through Muir Woods one morning. While they enjoyed the beauty and being present in this moment, Alex was slowly working up courage as they made their way up a less-traveled hiking path. There, with nobody around but the beautiful redwood trees, Alex got down on one knee as Rebecca's back was turned. When she turned around, Alex looked up at her, ring in hand, and asked "Will you marry me?" Rebecca squealed, cried, and notified all surrounding wildlife of the engagement as she happily accepted.
