Our story started the summer before our junior year at Cedar Ridge High School. Ezekiel had just moved to town, and we first met over breakfast with mutual friends. I jokingly “called dibs on the new kid,” not knowing how right I’d turn out to be. When school began, we became fast friends. Ezekiel was the quarterback, and I was an officer on the drill team — a classic high school pairing that ended up feeling anything but cliché to us. On December 17, 2016, after a Christmas party, Ezekiel dropped me off at home and asked me to be his girlfriend. From then on, we were inseparable. We went to every homecoming and prom together, cheered each other on through games and performances, and built a friendship that made being high school sweethearts feel easy. After graduation, we headed to different universities — I went to Texas A&M, and Ezekiel went to Texas State to continue playing football. The next four years were full of long drives, FaceTime dates, and meeting in the middle whenever we could. Some of our favorite memories from that time are afternoons at Sewell Park and cheering on the Aggies at Kyle Field. We both graduated in May 2022 — me with a degree in Nutritional Sciences, and Ezekiel with a degree in Microbiology. After college, we entered another stretch of long distance: Ezekiel moved to Laredo to work under an internal medicine physician, while I started an accelerated nursing program through Baylor University. Through exams, clinicals, and late-night calls, we kept showing up for each other. By August 2023, I had earned my BSN and started my job as a NICU nurse at St. David’s North Austin. Around the same time, Ezekiel discovered his passion for anesthesia and decided to pursue becoming a Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant. After applying to programs around the country, he was accepted into Case Western’s Master of Anesthesia program — conveniently located right in Austin. The stars had finally aligned, and the end of long distance was finally in sight. In April 2025, during a trip to Asheville, Ezekiel proposed in the gardens at the Biltmore Estate with my sisters there to celebrate. It was the perfect start to this next chapter. Ezekiel will graduate in May 2026 and has already accepted a job at St. David’s — the same hospital where I work. After years of long distance, we’re so grateful to finally be living in the same city, building our life together in the place where everything has come full circle. Today, we share a home in Austin with our mini longhaired dachshund, Daisy. Our weekends are spent at Zilker Park, taking Daisy to her weekly “Weenie Meetups,” and relaxing with our families on Lake Austin. After nine years together, we’ve chosen to get married in San Miguel de Allende — a city that instantly captured our hearts with its beauty, culture, and charm. We can’t wait to celebrate here with our favorite people next October!
