"There are friends, there is family, and then there are friends that become family."

Austin Vandorian Grier

Best Man

I met AV back in 2009 through a summer enrichment bridge program for incoming freshman at Winston-Salem State University. During our first interactions, I was skeptical if we would get along but our fondness of music, style and mischief would lead to a lifelong friendship. AV and I were suitemates in college for 3 years and we also were colleagues at WSSU for 2 years post-graduation. AV is one of the few people that literally knows everything about me. He is a true example of someone you want in the foxhole with you. I am forever appreciative of his advice, perspective, loyalty and patience (he’s listened to me vent a lot). It is awesome to see Austin in the role of husband and father now so I can pick his brain of things to come!

Amber Williamson

Maid of Honor

I first met Amber at our church daycare, Evangel Daycare, in 1996. Since our parents were all members, we became fast friends as we would find ourselves at the same church services and often sat together in children's church. Amber and I have too many memories to even count! One time as kids, me and our friend Ben tried to braid Amber's hair (she has A LOT) and it got all tangled. Amber's mom wanted to kill ALL of us! We lived in the same area growing up so we were always nagging our parents to drop us off at each others houses until we got cars. Amber is the only girl out of 5 children so she knows how to hold her own! What I love most about Amber is her ability to tell you what you don't want to hear but in a way that you hear ad accept it. I also love her laugh, and she laughs often!

Archie Lynch Jr.

Best Man

Archie and I have been friends/best-friends since Kindergarten. We both were the only African American males enrolled in our Spanish Immersion Program so we immediately gravitated towards each other. Growing up, Archie was just like a family member because we spent countless nights at each other’s respective homes, rode the bus to school for years together and often played sports with each other. During my early years, especially at school, if you saw me, you likely saw Archie. From Kindergarten to witnessing his daughter (Audri Belle Lynch) being born, we have truly been through everything together. Archie is more than a friend, he is a brother to me.

Khalila 'Lila' Chandra

Maid of Honor

I met Lila at Hester's Daycare in 1994 before I 'transferred' to Evangel Daycare. After I left we lost touch but as fate would have it, ended up at the same high school! One day after school Lila's mom spotted me and said, "Is that Kenya?". The rest is history! Since then Lila has been one of my closest friends. We attended UNCC together where we were roommates during and after we graduated. Me and Lila have been nicknamed Ebony and Ivory because you will never see one with out the other. Lila is the kind of person that will give you the shirt off of her back and then cook you breakfast! She is the most giving person I know. She will support you and be in your corner no matter what. I love her spontaneity and fearlessness, she is up for anything. I also love her food - she can throw down!

Keith Manley Jr.

Groomsman

Keith and I have known each other since 6th grade. Like Carl, Keith and I were connected prior to being born as well. Keith’s father and my mother are from the huge city of Murfreesboro, North Carolina. Not only are they from the same city but they also attended the same high school (we have photo evidence lol). Following middle school, we somewhat lost touch but reconnected after graduating college and living in the same city as adults. Throughout our time knowing each other, we have created a ton of memories (which I won’t go into detail lol) and have shared a ton of laughs and tears. You may have seen me on tv as I took part in a wedding for a nationally recognized show called Married at First Sight. The groom for that ceremony was Keith lol.

Mia Conway

Bridesmaid

I first met Mia in high school in 2007. She was in my IB English class and instantly stood out not only because she was always extremely well-dressed, but because of her confidence and outspokenness. We would often hang out in the same circles and eventually became very close friends. We shared lockers and had a notebook that we would write all of our 'latest news' in and leave for the other to read and comment on lol! That notebook is currently still buried at Grimsley High, we hope. Mia and I have always been awesome travel buddies. We have had so many amazing trips and I love visiting her in New York where she now lives. What I love most about Mia, and what makes her so successful, is her ability to cut through the noise and get to the point. She is the one you want in your corner!

Carl Hairston Jr.

Groomsman

Carl and I have been connected longer than we have been alive. Our parents were best-friends in college and continued their friendship/sistership through adulthood. Carl and I practically grew up together. We have spent countless birthdays, trips to Hooters and trips to Carowinds together. Like Archie, I consider Carl a brother to me. Despite a feisty temper during church league basketball (inside joke), I lean on Carl for professional and personal advice because he is wise beyond his years. If we aren’t debating/discussing sports, sharing music, or quoting Godfather scenes we are likely motivating and pushing each other forward in our respective fields. Carl’s wisdom and loyalty makes him a true consigliere that every Godfather needs!

Valerie Afam

Bridesmaid

My Val Pal! Val and I met shortly after college when she was enrolled in medical school in Charlotte, NC. She has since gone on to be a traveling nurse saving lives around the country and an integral part of the efforts against COVID-19! Val is one of the most honest and easy going people I know and a career-driven, boss! We first connected when I met her and asked to babysit her dog King the very next day so Kobe would have company LOL! Val is always the one with level-headed, completely unbiased advice which is what I love the most. It took a while for Val to warm up (lol) - but I've come to know her as a gracious, fun, loving and playful person. She also has the same name as my Nana! So excited and honored to have Val as part of our very special day.

David Butler

Groomsman

Like Austin, Dave and I met at the HSAP summer bridge program. We immediately bonded over our love of basketball and video games. Dave was my suitemate through all 4 years of college. Whether it was intramural basketball, playing online video games until 3 in the morning or staying up late to talk about life, Dave played an instrumental role in my college experience. One of my proudest moments was our senior year of college when he served as SGA President, I served as SGA Vice President of Internal Affairs and Austin served as SGA Vice President of External Affairs (the top 3 positions of Student Government Association); a goal we set our freshmen year. David has been someone to consistently hold me accountable for certain goals that I have set for myself and I appreciate him for it.

Ta'Tyana 'Taty' German

Bridesmaid

Me and Ta'tyana met my freshman year of college at UNCC. Taty was hometown friends with one of my suite mates and quickly became our 5th, unofficial roommate. Taty and I eventually began to hang out solo as she was one of the few freshman with a car and would ask me to ride with her on random trips to Target, etc when she wasn't at track practice lol. Taty and I became official suite mates our sophomore year after we convinced our parents to let us move off campus. We would often have art nights where we painted (Taty is an artist) and did nails (she also does nail designs, lol!). Taty is one of the funniest people I know and is extremely honest. Whenever I'm down on myself I call her and feel as if everything will turn out okay, and she's usually right!

Milton Leath Jr.

Groomsman

Milton and I have known each other since the 8th grade. I met Milton through a mutual friend and we instantly bonded over music, movies, television shows and our unique sense of humor. Milton is one of the most loyal guys I have ever met. When I think of someone that will always be in your corner, right or wrong, Milton is the first person that pops into my head. Throughout high school, I feel as though Milton kept me out of a lot of trouble and protected me when I didn’t even realize it. I spent countless hours at his house during those high school years, to the point, I felt as though his sisters were my sisters and his mom was my second mom.

Cameran Caldwell

Bridesmaid

Cameran is my blood sister although you may not be able to tell right away by looking at us! Cameran is so driven and achieves whatever she puts her mind to. As a recent graduate of A&T State University, she has entered the workforce as an elementary school teacher which is one of the most inspiring things you can become, especially these days! Cameran is a family-oriented person and holds those whom she loves very close. She has always been the kind of person to be intentional about strengthening family bonds. Cameran is also funny! I have always appreciated her sense of humor and enjoy being around and spending time with her - especially when we get to spend money together lol! You will notice Cam for her incredible fashion sense, she always looks like a million bucks!

Janee Pitt

Honorary Bridesmaid

I met Janee in 2008 on my very first job at Brown & Company in Bermuda. Janee instantly took me under her wing and introduced me to her friends and Bermuda life. I would always have to go back to the US for school after the summer was over but we kept in touch (which is rare!). When I moved back to Bermuda to work in government in 2018 me and Janee picked up right where we left off. We loved our weekly salsa nights at Docksider's (even though we never danced), going to the movies, hanging out with friends and sometimes just getting food and sitting somewhere peaceful. What I admire most about Janee is her ability to connect with people and bring them together. She has always made me feel like not just a friend, but family. She also helped Trey plan the engagement proposal in Bermuda!!!
