Both of our souls were filled with wanderlust at a young age. Suji was encouraged by her mother to study English and travel overseas to become a globalized woman. She made the most of her collegiate studies undertaking 3 majors that culminated in studying abroad in Japan and an internship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Just as he was starting in the 5th grade, Ray's family relocated to Bangkok, Thailand for his father's career opportunity. It was the opportunity of a lifetime to live among another culture and explore. His mother claims he was always wanting to know where they were going for the day as early as age 2. Ray and Suji nearly crossed paths in 2011 when they were both living an adventure in Japan. Ray was working at a job he dreamed of since high school - to work in Japan for an American multinational company, and Suji was studying abroad at Tohoku university during her junior year. Ray was hoping to find the one and Suji was living away from her home country for the first time in her life. It took another 5 years for us to finally meet in Dallas, TX. At our first date, Suji was so impressed with Ray's English skills because he said to have grown up in Thailand! Afterwards, he seemed just like another American who sought burgers, pizza and football until he quickly pointed out Won Bin in a Korean horror movie. Ray saw first-hand Suji's Korean gene power to absorb alcohol and wondered if he could challenge her to karaoke one day.
We watched way too many episodes of TLC's 90 Day Fiance. Suji sometimes wondered if Ray was Anfisa's George and if he was really serious about the relationship. That all was put to rest when Ray made the big committment and put that down payment on the diamond ring she fell in love with. It was shortly before Valentine's Day when we went out for dinner at a new seafood spot in West Plano...the Keeper. The Maitre D' delivered Suji's dessert where "Marry Me?" was etched on the plate in chocolate syrup. Word quickly spread about the reveal and just as the ring box was opened in front of her, everyone was yelling "YES YES YES YES!" It took a few moments as Suji was overcome with emotion and I finally got her YES :) She's a keeper!
