Entry Requirements for U.S. Guests Please ensure your U.S. passport is valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure date from Europe. The European Union is expected to implement ETIAS, a travel authorization requirement for U.S. visitors. Depending on the final rollout timeline, guests traveling to Portugal in October 2026 may need to obtain an ETIAS before departure. We recommend checking the latest entry requirements closer to your travel date.
We recommend taking a taxi, Uber, or Bolt (Portugal's version of Uber). There is no direct train or shuttle from the airport to Sintra.
Sintra is ~25 miles and about 30 minutes from the Lisbon Airport (Humberto Delgado Airport). However, we recommend accounting for some extra travel time as many roads in Sintra are one way roads, and slow moving traffic can result in longer travel times. When you land in Lisbon, we suggest using a taxi or an Uber or Bolt (ride sharing apps) to travel to Sintra
We recommend using Multibanco ATMs. These are Portugal’s national interbank ATM network, known for being safe, reliable, and widely available throughout the city. They typically do not charge local ATM fees, although your home bank may apply its own. You'll find Multibanco ATMs in most metro stations, shopping areas, and bank branches. Avoid Euronet ATMs. While these are conveniently located, especially at the airport, they are known for high fees, unfavorable exchange rates, and often prompt users to accept Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC), which usually results in a poor rate. We recommend declining DCC if prompted and opting to be charged in euros.
You do not need to rent a car and we actually suggest against it. We recommend you use either Uber or Bolt (Portugal's other ride share app), which will work in both Sintra and Lisbon.
If you choose to rent a car, note there is no parking available at the venue.
The weather in Sintra in early October is pleasant and mild, with average temperatures falling between 55-75 degrees Fahrenheit. As it is a transition period from the warmer summer months to the fall season, evenings tend to be cooler so we advise packing accordingly with options to layer.
We suggest watching your flight on Hopper for reccs on the best time to buy. If you are planning to travel after the wedding, we suggest buying a one-way flight to Portugal when it is cheapest, and then buying flights to other countries in between, and then a one way from your last destination on your trip.
