The wedding will take place in Niterói, a city located across Guanabara Bay from Rio de Janeiro (you can see the map under the Gallery tab). While many visitors usually stay in Rio, we recommend booking your accommodation in Niterói for the night of the wedding. Here’s why: Niterói is about 45 minutes by car from Rio, and the only access is via the Rio–Niterói bridge, which often has heavy traffic—especially on Fridays. Staying in Niterói will make it easier to get to the venue on time and enjoy the celebration without stress. Check the Travel tab for our recommended places to stay. Of course, you’re welcome to stay in Rio if you prefer; just keep in mind you’ll need to arrange transportation (Uber or private transfer options will also be listed in the Travel tab).
In the city of Rio de Janeiro, we recommend staying in the South Zone, close to the beach — neighborhoods like Ipanema, Leblon, Copacabana, and Leme are great options. Another beautiful choice is Santa Teresa, which isn’t by the beach but offers stunning views of the city. We also suggest Botafogo and Flamengo, which are centrally located and very convenient. In Niterói, we recommend the neighborhoods of Ingá, Icaraí, Charitas, and São Francisco, as well as the beach area of Piratininga, Camboinhas and Itacoatiara for a more relaxed and scenic stay (those places are a little bif far from the venue, so make sure you take are able to rely on uber or rent a car)
Here are some important tips to make your trip smoother: Communication: Please download WhatsApp. In Brazil, almost everyone uses WhatsApp instead of iMessage or SMS. You’ll need it to easily communicate with private transfers, Airbnb hosts, rental car companies, and even local businesses. Adapters/voltage: Brazil uses type N plugs and voltage may vary (127V or 220V), so a universal adapter is handy Credit cards & cash: Credit cards are widely accepted, but it’s good to carry some cash Language: Most people speak Portuguese, so downloading Google Translate can be useful Safety: Like in any big city, be mindful of your belongings in crowded places
Don’t forget the essentials! Bring sunscreen, light clothing, sunglasses, and a swimsuit to enjoy the warm weather. Pack lots of energy for the celebrations too! And remember to exchange your money for the local currency — the Brazilian Real (BRL / R$).
The currency in Brazil is the Brazilian Real (BRL / R$). The exchange rate fluctuates, but right now USD $1 = R$ 5.5. We recommend checking the rate before your trip and exchanging some money in advance or upon arrival.
The wedding will take place in springtime in Brazil — but spring here feels a lot like summer! 🌸☀️ You can expect warm and sunny weather, with temperatures ranging from the 70s to 90s °F (21–34 °C). We suggest planning your outfits with this in mind so you’ll be comfortable throughout the celebration.
In Rio de Janeiro, public transportation is more accessible — the city has a subway (metro), buses, and trains that connect different neighborhoods. This makes it relatively easy to get around, especially in the South Zone (Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, etc.). In Niterói, however, the options are more limited. There are only buses, so most people rely on cars or Uber to move around. For visitors, we recommend using Uber or hiring a private transfer, as it’s the most convenient and reliable way to get around.
We will share on the Travel tab the contact of an Uber driver who speaks English, as well as a private transfer option. You can also rent a car (Localiza is the reliable and common option for car rental) or take a regular Uber, but if you’re staying farther from the venue — especially if you’re in a big group — we recommend booking a private transfer for more comfort and ease.
