Our story begins on the campus of CSU Sacramento. Janay was an active student leader, President of the Black Student Union and working as a tutor at the MLK Center. Uriah was a new student at the time, in college to pursue two degrees and make his mark on the world. Having already introduced himself to the campus community by the name of King, he came to the student resource center where Janay worked to be connected and "meet who he needs to know." Uriah was introduced to Janay and soon realized how she is a Queen in her own right.
We continued to spend time together and developed a deep friendship over our shared values, goals, and activism. As feelings grew, we both separately confided in a close mutual friend about our interest in each other and were encouraged to take the next step. King was chivalrous, of course, and asked to court Janay to the school's annual winter gala, to which she gladly accepted. We attended together and were a royal match.
The choice to be together wasn't made lightly. We always knew a relationship would lead us toward marriage and building the family of our dreams. We found a soulmate in each other, which formed a bond that has proven unbreakable no matter the distance. We have evolved as individuals and as a couple, and have embraced life's journey together over the last 8 years. We can't wait to continue as husband and wife!
