1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
This event will involve some ceremonial and playful exchange of turmeric paste. It is traditional to wear some variety of yellow or mustard color to match the turmeric. It is possible that some turmeric dye might stain your clothing if you participate in the turmeric exchange.
The haldi ceremony is a Hindu tradition which cleanses and protects the bride and groom before their wedding. Family and friends bless the couple with a turmeric paste, which gives their skin a healthy glow. The turmeric paste is then exchanged among all the friends and family. It is messy and fun and beautiful. However, you are not required to participate hands-on if you don't want to get turmeric all over your face and hands!
6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
This event can be a bit more dressy-casual, we will be dancing!
The Sangeet is traditionally the night before the wedding as an opportunity for both sides of the family to get to know each other. It is also an event for friends and family to sing, dance, and perform for the bride and groom! Performances will be open mic style, if you are musically inclined you are welcome to pick up the microphone and entertain us! Please reach out to Alexandra or Rahul for further details. Some of you may want to wash up and/or change after the Haldi celebration. For those who have traveled out of town and are unable to leave the Singh's house to wash/change, we can allocate space for you to wash your face and change if you need. Please let us know if you have any questions.
1:00 pm - 1:45 pm
Suggested attire is light-weight formal Indian clothing or Western-style sun-dress for ladies and button-downs/ties for gents. Bright colors encouraged, but avoid solid red or white. Please note, it may be hot and the event is all outdoors!
Traditionally the Baraat is a wedding procession that begins at the groom's house and ends at the bride's house. You may see our dear Rahul riding a white horse to reach his bride! The Baraat often features music and lot of dancing, as all the wedding guests escort the groom to the wedding! Please come to the Baraat ready to make a lot of noise and dance!
1:45 pm - 2:45 pm
This is a special pre-wedding ceremony in which the bride and groom's family "meet," embrace, and exchange honorary garlands. The bride's family will also perform a series of ritual blessings upon the groom as a welcome into their family! There will also be light foods and refreshments at this time.
3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
This is a culturally-merged celebration. Many will be dressed in light-weight formal Indian wear, and many will be dressed in more Western attire. Above all, please consider the weather and heat when selecting your attire. We want everyone to be comfortable. With that said, colors are encouraged! Please avoid too much white, red, and black.
Please note that Hindu ceremonies are significantly longer than what many are accustomed to. There will be refreshments available nearby the ceremony, and guests should feel free to come and go from the seated-ceremony area as they need. For any questions regarding attire or ceremony timeline, please feel free to reach out to Alexandra or Rahul.
