Rae and Sam met at a mutual friends house over a game of jackbox. Using expert romance skills learned from his father, Sam tried to romance Rae using the tried and true method, of teasing Rae during board games until she picked up on the fact he liked her. Later on, Sam finally got the courage to ask Rae out on a date.

Sam asked Rae out to meet at his favorite coffee shop, ASIP. There they talked about mutual interests, (both are big Harry Potter fans and video game hobbyists) and of course things they wanted to do in life. Rae wanted to help people out with mental disorders using her psychology degree, and Sam wanted to design things to help the world. Even when their cups ran dry, they didn't want the date to end, so Sam and Rae both began visiting their favorite spots downtown. Rae took Sam to her favorite record store, an antique mall, and Sam took her to watch a superhero movie and the nickel arcade. What started as a date only meant to last an hour, lasted until the sun had set.

Sam had been waffling on trying to find the right time and place to ask Rae to spend the rest of their lives together. He had known for months that she was the one, but couldn't find the right time to ask. Then, rather than overthink it more than he usually did, he listened to his heart and picked what ended up being their place of proposal. Rae loves charcuterie, so Sam picked up a bunch of sliced meat, cheese, jam, and crackers, stuffed them all in an ice cooler, and took Rae to the San Jose Rose Gardens. Sam loved the gardens because it reminded him of the plants Rae had been raising and taking care of in their apartment. So, surrounded by the roses, full from delicious picnic snacks, Sam asked Rae to be hers forever. And, she said yes :)
