Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Rae Ann Alton and Tim Elmes
There are so many fun things to do in Asheville and the surrounding western North Carolina mountains. We love it here so much! Here are a few of our favorite things.
Jerusalema Dance at the Reception!

Jerusalema Dance at the Reception!

215 Justice Ridge Road, Candler, NC 28715

Optional Activity at the wedding. We will be playing the South African song, Jerusalema, for which there is a fun line dance that has gone viral around the world. Please join us on the dance floor! Click the link below to see what we're talking about. And then, if it looks like fun to you, cut and paste this tutorial into a browser to learn the dance. It's easy! (Even Tim can do it!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6efHtpJK-Ns

Catawba Falls

Catawba Falls

3074 Catawba River Rd, Old Fort, North Carolina 28762

This is Rae Ann's favorite hike. It reminds her of scenes from "Avatar." About 40 minutes outside of Asheville and a 3 mile roundtrip hike.

Triple Falls - Dupont State Forest

Triple Falls - Dupont State Forest

1300 Station Road, Cedar Mountain, North Carolina 28718

This is Tim's favorite hike (and Rae Ann loves it too!). You can hike to multiple waterfalls in one day from here: Triple Falls, High Falls and Hooker Falls. Not far from Asheville and from the wedding venue.

Looking Glass Falls

Looking Glass Falls

NC 28768

If you don’t feel like hiking, this beautiful waterfall can be seen from the road and can be accessed by a set of steps from the road.

Appalachian Medley Scenic Byway

Appalachian Medley Scenic Byway

If there is ever a time to experience this 45 mile scenic drive, it is the last week in October! The leaves should be at their peak. Start on NC Highway 209 from gorgeous Lake Junaluska (not far from The Farm!).

Biltmore House and Gardens

Biltmore House and Gardens

One Lodge Street, Asheville, NC 28803

If you have never been to the Biltmore, it's worth a trip to see what is still the largest private home in America. The gardens are spectacular as well and you can buy a pass just to stroll the gardens and hike on the estate. There is also a winery and many fine restaurants and pubs on site.

Hillman Beer

Hillman Beer

We love Hillman because their taproom in Asheville sits on Sweeten Creek and it's fun to sit outside by the water. They also have excellent beer and food. The Old Fort location is also excellent and makes a great stop after hiking Catawba Falls.
