Jake and Rachel first met in the Spring of 2022 on a co-ed adult soccer team organized by their mutual friend, Will, who had ambitiously assembled a team with a very wide range of talent. Rachel displayed on brand soccer prowess and Jake... did his best. Later that summer, some of the team was invited to Rachel’s parents’ house for “Lake Weekend,” where Jake got to meet Rachel’s high school and college friends. At one point, Jake was lounging on the water trampoline and called out for a beer. Rachel’s brother, Ryan, decided to test his throwing arm, but the beer had other plans. It ricocheted off the middle of Jake's docked boat and somehow made it cleanly out the other side, leaving everyone laughing (and fortunately, no damage done). The next day, Rachel texted Jake to "make sure the boat was okay" after the beer incident. One message led to another, and soon they found themselves talking every day. Those conversations turned into friendship, then a relationship, and now an engagement. Jake was cut from the soccer team the next season, but he’s still Rachel’s biggest fan, cheering her on from the sidelines.
