Travel & Logistics

The Wedding Website of Halle Erdahl and Austen Radke
Lake Como is located in northern Italy, about 50 miles north of Milan and very close to the Swiss border. The largest town on Lake Como is Como at the southern end of the lake. All wedding events will be taking place at or near the Grand Hotel Tremezzo (GHT), in the center of the lake, about 45 minutes north of Como. The most direct routes to Lake Como are through Milan. All major US cities fly direct or connect through a European city to Milan. We will be providing accommodation at GHT for the duration of wedding events (3 nights), Tuesday, September 17th through Friday September 20th, 2024. You will need to arrive in Milan by Monday, September 16th, to travel to GHT on Tuesday the 17th. All in all, we recommend arriving in Europe at least 24-48 hours prior to beginning your journey to GHT. This will allow your body to adjust to the time change and your mind to be less stressed about traveling to Como.

Travel Note

Getting to Milan

From the US: - Direct flight to Milan or a connecting flight through another European city (Amsterdam, Paris, Reykjavik, etc.). From other European countries: - A flight to Milan still makes the most sense. From other cities in Italy: - Italia Rail is the best option. Plan for a full day of connecting train rides from Rome or any cities further south.

Flight

Milan Malpensa Airport

The Milan Malpensa Airport is the largest international flight hub with a train station located in Terminal 1 of the airport. The airport is about 35 miles northwest of Milan and about 35 miles southwest of Como. You can take a train from the Malpensa airport (about 2 hours connecting through Milane Centrale), or private car directly to Tremezzo (about 1 hour).

Flight

Linate Airport

Linate is a much closer airport to Central Milan and convenient if staying in Milan for one night. To train to Como, you will catch a taxi or bus from Linate to Milano Centrale Station. Milano Centrale Station is a 15 minute cab or ~30 minute bus from Linate with a one hour train ride to Como. Private car from Linate to GHT is approximately an hour and half. Please note, Linate only serves European flights.

Travel Note

Private Car Service

The easiest and most direct route, although expensive, from Milan to GHT is by private car. We have used and recommend: - Milano by Car (https://www.milanobycar.com/): Communication is done through email, but they are responsive and reasonably priced. - Transfeero App: Much like Uber or Lyft, but for airport pick up and private cars around Italy. There are many other options, just do your research and book ahead of time!

Train

Italia Rail

The main train station in Como is called Como San Giovanni, nearly all Como bound trains originating in Italy will require a transfer in Milan. From Malspena Airport Terminal 1: - The station is located within the airport, but the train to Como connects through Milano Centrale Station. This trip is approximately 2 hours. From Milano Centrale Station: - The station is located about a 15 minute cab ride from the Linate Airport. Trains leave Milano Centrale Station for Como every 30-60 minutes. The trip takes approximately one hour.
