There's a lot to love about Mexico City, but the food scene might be #1. If you're only here for a few days, we'd highly recommend CTH's walking food tours–they do a great job considering dietary restrictions, the food is safe, and you'll get your steps in, too.
Highly recommend renting a boat in Xochimilco–it's a bit of a trek to get down there, but it's worth it, especially with a big group. Probably more fun if you're looking to drink! If you're interested, we can send you the guide we booked last time.
Surprised to see a library on our list of recommendations? Trust us–this one's special. Biblioteca Vasconcelos features a cavernous interior with seven floors of suspended stacks. Whether you love books or architecture, it's worth a trip.
Lucha Libre is a must while you're in town. Shows are Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday.
People love the sunrise hot air balloon among the pyramids, but definitely book through Airbnb or another reputable site a few days in advance.
The Frida Kahlo Museum is one of the few things in town we'd recommend getting tickets for well in advance, as they sell out quickly. The museum is beautiful, she is an icon, and there's lots to do in the neighborhood.
If you love design and architecture, go to Casa Gilardi. You'll need tickets in advance, but this home, designed by Luis Barragan, is worth the visit. Google it if you don't believe us!
Chapultepec Park makes Central Park look like a patch of grass in a strip mall. Think we're being dramatic? Go visit and then come talk to us. This park is home to some of the best museums in the world, including the Anthropology Museum, Museo Tamayo, Museo Jumex, and Chapultepec Castle.
Huge vintage market on Sundays.
Cute park, lots of dogs, worth a stroll while you've got a pastry in hand.
Until 2pm on Sundays, Reforma (the city's main street) closes down for bike and pedestrian use only. Get on an Ecobici and take a ride around town, assuming you're not too hungover after the wedding.
This historic stadium is currently being renovated to host matches for the 2026 World Cup. It's rumored to be reopening in October of this year, and it's an incredible experience catching a soccer game there.
If you're in the mood for live music and salsa, Mama Rumba's the spot.
Some FAQs on dining culture: tipping around 10-20% is expected. IVA on a bill is the tax, not a tip. We'll often ask for 'la cuenta' (the check) and add 'con quince' (with 15%). Use Spanish when you can, especially 'por favor' (please) and 'gracias' (thank you). In many other countries, servers at restaurants will check on your table very frequently. In Mexico, your server will often wait until you flag them down. That's not bad service, it's just the culture here–they don't like to nag or rush customers! Try a wave or 'disculpe' to get their attention.
It's the city of tacos, and we couldn't possibly cover them all–highly recommend Club Tengo Hambre's taco tour. But here's a good starting point: Taquería Orinoco: Michelin starred, trompo, long lines but solid. El Farolito: Al Pastor, classic, fast. Cariñito: Asian-inspired, good vegan options. El Auténtico Pato Manila: Filipino-Mexican fusion, one of our all-time favorites. Don't go to the Polanco location, though. El Turix: FANTASTIC cochinita, another all-time favorite. Por Siempre Vegana: Great vegan tacos. Tacos al Humo: Good overall taco spot. El Vilsito: By day, a mechanic shop, and by night, excellent al pastor. Taquería El Califa: Really great tacos.
Mexican-Indian fusion, and a must-visit. Great food, great natural wines.
Arguably Rachita's favorite way to spend an afternoon. This iconic seafood spot is great for people-watching, excellent old-school service, and tuna tostadas that will blow your mind. Highly recommend stopping by, and if you've got a big group, try to make a reservation.
A speakeasy-style Thai-Mexican fusion spot on a rooftop. They're only open Sat-Mon, but it's worth a visit if you can get there early. Vinyl DJs, natural wines, extremely spicy food, and a really cool vibe overall.
If you're looking for a nicer meal while in town, this place is elevated Mexican that will blow your mind. Great for a date night.
One of the classic fine dining meals in Mexico City, this place's tasting menu is consistently ranked in the top 10 worldwide. It's iconic, it's pricey, and it will require reservations in advance.

If you're in the mood for more upscale Japanese, this is your spot.
Great Thai food, excellent cocktails in particular. We like putting our names in at Choza, then going to get a drink here while we wait.
In the market for a tattoo? Rachita's gotten all of her favorite tattoos here–this shop has many extremely talented artists and the US dollar is very strong here!
Best pastries in town, and we get the guava roll almost every single day when we’re visiting. They've got multiple locations!
Pizza Félix is great for a happy hour cocktail and some people watching.
Gin Gin has great cocktails!
Delicious chilaquiles.
