Not quite a hike, more like a lovely walk (1.5 mile out-and-back; mostly flat, no elevation). Beautiful scenery along the way, and an awesome waterfall at the end. Good for families (or anyone!). The falls are located on the west side of Cayuga lake. We love making a day in that area, and following the hike with lunch at Glenwood Pines (no frills place for a great burger, a beer, and lawn games) or The Finger Lakes Cider House (yummy local/organic food and dry hard ciders that will make you a believer). You can also swing by Bet the Farm Winery or Myer Farm Distillers for wine/spirits tastings!
Handmade dumplings, rice and salad--the best bite of food we've found in the Finger Lakes! Imelda (who's Chinese name is San San) takes immense pride in the quality of her ingredients, and the perfection of her process. Call to place your order in advance, or better yet, book a tasting at Kemmeter Winery, operated by her husband/winemaker Johannes Reinhardt (the dumpling shop is located on the property). ***Note, Sans Dumplings is only open Thurs-Sat, 11:30am-5:30pm For dessert head to The Spotted Duck for a flight of duck egg ice cream. All are located on the west side of Seneca Lake, which also features many wineries and breweries to explore!
As some of you may know, Ryan and I love a good diner! Located about 30 min south of us, Toni's has some of the best homemade, no-frills food we've tasted in The Finger Lakes. The owner Toni will be there to greet and seat you, and her husband (we're pretty sure it's her husband :)) is the passionate cook behind the stove, and truly takes pride in his work. Freshly baked bread & jam, two types of house made hot sauce, perfectly crispy and well-seasoned has browns, fluffy pancakes, and one of the best omelettes we've ever had are a few of our favorite things (but you really can't go wrong). It's a small place, and you'll wait a while for the food to arrive, but it's well worth it!
Several times a week Ryan heads into Geneva to sit at the counter at Water Street Cafe and have breakfast with his friends--including several elderly locals who consider this spot their second home, and the wait staff who know Ryan by name...and to get the hash browns on the griddle as soon as he arrives so they'll be extra crispy. This sense of small-town community is one of the things we love most about living up here. Stop by for the house made sourdough, extensive menu of diner classics, and tell Theresa Ryan Green sent you ;)
Food Trucks & Music! GREAT views here on the lake in an easy-going state park
