Jesse and Rachel first met in 2012 when they were paired as partners during their very first clinical session at the University of Minnesota’s School of Nursing. They bonded after their fumbled first attempts to take a particularly ornery man’s blood pressure and adjust the bed position, after which Rachel turned to Jesse and asked, “So…How do you think that went?”. Jesse pulled out his charm and took a chance on a “smooth” response and replied, “Well, it definitely helps to have a cute girl for a partner.”. Overwhelmed and taken aback by Jesse’s unexpected response, Rachel grew red in the face, awkwardly laughed it off, and quickly vacated the area. As the end of the semester approached, Jesse asked Rachel if she wanted to join his "study" group for their final exams. Rachel assumed Jesse was just being his inclusive self and thought nothing of it. Eventually, Jesse took a more direct approach and asked to take Rachel to a movie, (Pixar of course because Jesse is obsessed), at which point Rachel realized… maybe he liked her. Over the next few months, Rachel and Jesse realized they had a lot more in common than just nursing. Both shared similar values, pastimes and interests including staying active, silly senses of humor, love of IPA beer and sports, and perhaps, most importantly, Wisconsin. Four years later, on a beautiful May Sunday, Rachel was suddenly transported back to 2012 – confused and taken by surprise by Jesse. While walking their dog, Rue, around Lake Harriet in Minneapolis Rachel noticed Jesse was no longer along side her. She turned around and there he was, kneeling on the ground with a ring and relayed his sweet speech. Rachel clarified, “So...are you asking me to marry you?”. He said, “Oh, yes, I guess I forgot to ask. Will you marry me?”, and Rachel wholeheartedly said, “yes”. Jesse– always unexpectedly prepared –pulled a bottle of champagne and red solo cups out of his drawstring backpack and they toasted to their next adventures together.
