He got Rachel's address wrong, thus the most important package Jake ever sent was misplaced. --- As the college years came to a close at Vanderbilt, they found each other living on the same block. Despite the overlap in their friend groups, they didn't know each other well. But an invitation from groomsman Tim to hang out at the boys’ house after a Super Bowl party was the spark. After weeks of grinning conversations on the screened-in porch and late nights with friends, they were together all the time. So much so, that not much consideration was given to themselves as a pair in the future. Jake's plan was to road trip West in his old Bronco II to Washington state, and Rachel had just begun a new job. The day Jake loaded up his stuff to leave Nashville, they shared a bittersweet moment of goodbye and they both knew, though they couldn't find the words to express it, that they were supposed to be together. Months passed, Jake away in a rainy corner of the country and Rachel settling into her urban adulthood. Nights went by they both dreamed of one another, but calls became less frequent and letters had faded off by fall. But Jake was certain he loved that girl. A package containing a ten page letter, a silk scarf, and mementos of the Northwest were mailed off like a ship in the night containing the only hope for happiness he ever had. Unfortunately, Rachel didn’t receive the package; Jake was heartbroken, but not hopeless. One night after Christmas, they called each other attempting to track down the lost package. Realizing his chance, Jake confessed, "I would die with regrets if I didn't tell you...I'm in love with you." She replied, "I love you too, I wish you'd never left!" As luck would have it, the package arrived later that week. Rachel got to read the details of his heart and Jake was already on the way home in his mind. Five years later, with the addition of three cats, the two are as helplessly in love as day one.
