The venue itself holds a day job as a plant/tree nursery & greenhouse and is fun to browse through while eating some of their home-made ice cream. The pick-your-own fruit season will have begun by the time of the wedding for blueberries, plums, and potentially peaches & black raspberries depending on ripening times.
Charlottesville is a cute little city with lots of history and culture and is about half an hour from the venue. The Downtown Historic Mall is a charming walkable area with fun shopping & food, and is a great way to pass a few hours. Monticello (Thomas Jefferson's historic mansion/plantation) is open for tours. There are also many excellent restaurants, breweries, and wineries to try.
Richmond (our home city) is about an hour drive from the venue. If you're staying for longer than a few days, we recommend visiting Richmond to experience its food, many free museums, river, and historic architecture.
For the truly outdoor-motivated, the Shenandoah Valley begins nearby and the area offers a wide variety of scenic hikes. The Appalachian Trail runs through Shenandoah and parts of it make great day hikes with lovely vistas and beautiful sunsets.
