Climb the volcanic spire namesake of the wedding! A short but steep hike that would be an excellent way to spend Saturday morning before the festivities. Make sure to park in the actual marked trailhead parking lot and not someone's driveway....
This gentle mountain pass connects the Paonia/Somerset area to Crested Butte, traveling between the West Elk and Ragged Mountains through the largest single aspen grove in the lower 48 states. Full of hiking (like the Ruby Anthracite trail) and beautiful scenery, it's worth the trip, either just in part or all the way to Crested Butte and back.
To the west of Crawford begins the expanse of Colorado canyon lands that stretches to the state border and beyond, a dramatic descent from the heights of the Rockies. Dominguez-Escalante NCA protects the first massive canyon just outside Delta, Colorado and is full of hiking and climbing opportunities. Plan for high heat in August, start hikes early and bring lots of water.
