In order to surprise Chris for the ceremony, we couldn't bring a crowd to the event. We want you to be a part of the experience of celebrating our commitment with us after the fact!

It's an inside joke. Even though he was surprised, Chris noted during their ceremony that this was always how he expected it would happen.

Are you doing a bit? Is this even legal?!

Answer

It's not a joke, and it's totally legal. Specialty notaries in Los Angeles County can both officiate weddings and notarize marriage licenses without the partnered parties going to a County Registrar in advance.

Yes! We're planning to have a party in Los Angeles in early 2025.
