This was the first winery that Rachel and Brian visited in Napa and one of #BigDaddyJDub's favorites. The beautiful rolling Napa hills with the rock music playing in the background makes for a perfect place to drink excellent wine.
Another one of Rachel and Brian's favorite Napa wineries. V. Sattui Winery on Highway 29 is a great spot to enjoy a picnic lunch and a bottle (or two!) of wine. You can purchase breads, cheeses and deli items on site. Get there early if you want a spot on one of the picnic tables! You can also go to a local market and pick up your lunch items and bottle of wine and picnic in one of the many local parks in Sonoma and Napa.
If you can’t make it to San Francisco and want to ride on the iconic cable car, this is the tour for you. The Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley is modeled after the cable cars in SF. The tour includes a knowledgeable guide, great views of the Sonoma valley, stops at 3 wineries (wine tasting is not included in the price of the tour) and a box lunch.
For those who need to stretch their legs after a long day of travel, hike on one of the trails found in a nearby regional park. There are easy, moderate and challenging trails, all offering spectacular views of the Sonoma countryside. Pack a bottle of wine and a picnic (just make sure you bring a bottle opener or have a twist off bottle in your bag!)
Healdsburg is just a short jaunt from Santa Rosa and is Rachel and Brian's favorite place for a day trip out of the city. Check out the Pinot Heavy Wineries that line the central square. Some of our favorite include Marine Layer, Banshee, Bloodroot, and Cartograph (with their Minnesota roots). Also enjoy a nice lunch at Campo Fina or Journeyman butcher-shop and enjoy the boutique shops along the square.
