Andre and I met in high school at a house party when I was 16. Coincidentally enough, we were basically wearing the same outfit, red shorts and a white and black striped tank top (refer to gallery page), and weirdly enough, it wasn’t even my clothing. I had borrowed the outfit from our friend Jaz. Maybe it was coincidence, or maybe it was fate. Fast forward one month, and we were officially *insert gasp* boyfriend and girlfriend. We dated my junior and senior year into college and dabbled in long distance with Andre at UNG and me at KSU. Sophomore year, we parted ways for a very long 8 months. Being we started dating so young, we needed to sort through if what we really wanted was each other. Needless to say, it was. That was about 8 years ago, and the relationship we came back to was a new relationship almost entirely. That time apart allowed us to learn so much about ourselves. It brought us back together as better people, both in general and for each other. Since then, we have worked as a team to grow and improve and become the humans we aspire to be. I have been a nurse for 5 years, and Andre is in the process of getting his Doctorates in Physical Therapy. These are all credentials that mean something, yes, but don’t mean as much as what we have learned and continue to learn from each other. There is a saying that “good things come to those who wait.” For us, I think that is true. Over 11 years ago, we started dating and we were not ready to get married until now, and that is okay. Our timeline is not traditional, but it is ours, and it is what we needed to become the strong couple that we are today. Now that the wedding is around the corner though, I would like to say… “It is about damn time!”
