September 28, 2019: We say, "I do"
I had a feeling the proposal was going to happen around August..maybe when we were going to Nashville to see Kenny Chesney, but when Chris had the opportunity to go to Greece mid July for work I knew I would pay whatever the flight cost to go...obviously hoping it would happen. Fast forward 6 weeks, yes, we planned a trip to Greece and full itinerary within 6 weeks. The first day I was there, I was trying to pry (shocking), asking oh what do you want to do this night & this night. He had nothing! Well crap, maybe he's not going pop the question. The second night there I thought we were going to Oia for dinner & the sunset. I asked him what he was wearing he said a button down & jeans. "Okay, tonight is the night," I thought. I then had to avoid him while getting ready because I couldn't stop smiling. Chris had a "driver" to "dinner" (later found out it was the photographer). The driver made a suggestion to get out at this lookout spot so I did and even took a snapchat story of the view. He suggested to go down to the chapel, I asked if it was one of the blue roof ones, he said, "no". I wasn't really interested after that but for some reason still went. We get down there & Chris keeps walking back & forth, I'm thinking okay let's go to dinner (because... duh food). As he keeps walking around I realize okay he's trying to figure out how to do it....well just ask me, come on! He started asking me about how many sunsets we've experienced together and I'm not feeling the math involved. He kept talking, I blacked out but ended up with a ring on my finger and sweetest man to spend forever with!
I finally received the good news I was hoping for. The good news wasn't that I had successfully sold in a project to my client, but I was going to be able to propose to the woman of my dreams in one of the most romantic places in the world. Traveling with the ring for 5 days in Athens before Rach arrived were the most terrifying days of my life. My biggest fear was leaving it in the hotel safe. Once Rach & I were in Santorini, I wanted to do my best to throw her off, so I had nothing scheduled & asked her why she had gotten a manicure. I could tell she was beginning to contemplate if it was going to happen...success. The next day was one I will never forget. After an amazing time 4-wheeling around the island, I told Rach I had made dinner reservations for us that night & the restaurant was sending a driver to pick us up. The driver doubled as our photographer & per my strict instructions (I later got brownie points for how organized I was) took us to a remote part of the island overlooking the caldera. I could tell Rach was confused as we were heading the opposite way of the restaurant. When we got to the spot, the driver encouraged us to get out, admire the sunset & take a quick stroll down a path where a beautiful church stood against the cliff. I had always envisioned this supposed "remote" part of the island to be private. As we got to the church where I was going to propose, we noticed many tourists camped out to see the sunset. I thought if I stalled long enough or made non-verbal cues everyone would scatter & give us our private moment, but this was clearly not going to happen. After fumbling around for a few minutes (what seemed like hours) I figured it was now or never. While admiring the sunset, I asked her if she knew how many sunsets had occurred while we have been together & if she'd wanted to enjoy them with me for the rest of her life. Thankfully she said yes! Now I get to spend the rest of my life with the woman of my dreams!
