COVID-19 has drastically changed our lives in many ways. In order to protect those most vulnerable among us, we ask that all attendees are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in accordance with the CDC recommendations.
We met at Creighton our freshman year of college, but neither one of us actually remembers the first time we met. Our sophomore year started with both of us in a mostly freshman class, and Rachel sat next to Nick because he was a face she recognized. We became good friends over that year, and halfway through junior year decided to make it official. Rachel went to medical school at the University of Iowa following graduation, and Nick stayed at Creighton in Omaha for pharmacy school, giving us 4 years of being apart. As luck (a computer algorithm, and working in medicine) would have it, Rachel ended up in Omaha again for her pediatric residency, while Nick ended up in Ann Arbor, Michigan for pharmacy residency. 2 years (and a global pandemic) later, Nick moved back to Omaha in July of 2020 to be with Rachel as she finished out residency. Rachel is starting pediatric ICU fellowship this July in Phoenix, AZ, so we will be moving shortly after the wedding.
After working in the pandemic for over a year, we were both in need of a break, so we booked a cabin in Estes Park so we could get outside and enjoy some mountain air for a while. We went on a few hikes in Rocky Mountain National Park, and Nick couldn't quite find the right spot to ask, until the last day when we went on our longest hike. It was snowing, and we kept losing the trail, so we decided to pause at a look out over a snow filled gorge, and Nick got down on one knee to ask Rachel to marry him. Nick isn't great at keeping secrets from Rachel though, so she had a bottle of champagne for them when they got back to the cabin.
