This address is the Liberty Bell Center - the "center" of this district and its amenities. Admission is FREE! For the historic places - we recommend making a plan and booking tickets in advance as you can do walking tours, and other guided tours through independence hall that occur at regular times. There are a ton of other things to see within walking distance. One of our favorite parks is right around the corner - Washington Square. FOOD: If you're up for a brief walk, this is also close to our 2nd favorite cheesesteak and some of the best ice cream in the city! Grab a cheesesteak at Sonny's (our second favorite cheesesteak spot 228 Market St, Philadelphia, PA 19106) and then walk just a bit further to Franklin Fountain Ice Cream (116 Market St, Philadelphia, PA 19106)!
You could easily spend a day visiting the museum, the Rocky steps and the Fairmount park grounds. We recommend taking this trip on a beautiful day and then walking along the Schuykill River north of the museum towards Boathouse row. https://www.visitphilly.com/things-to-do/attractions/philadelphia-museum-of-art/#the-experience
The address is for Reading Terminal market where we recommend you start. Reading Terminal Market is a giant foodhall with no shortage of food choices. We recommend Hatville Deli if you love a good reuben sandwich. For dessert - go to Termini Bakery for a cannoli. Walk along Market/Arch streets towards City Hall and walk around! This is the nexus of the city and the center is normally open to the public (with bathrooms!) and has a merry go-around and even a small open area that usually has seasonal festivities! Walk towards the LOVE sign and snap a photo! No matter the angle - you are either facing the city or Benjamin Parkway.
One of the ritziest neighborhoods in Philadelphia surrounds Rittenhouse Square and is one of the busiest and prettiest parks in the city. It neighbors Walnut and Chestnut street which have tons of clothing and fashion stores, excellent dining options and a great stretch of restaurants between those two streets on Sansom. There is a farmer's market on Saturdays where Quinn and I like to get flowers from the the Amish! Depending on how you want to spend your day - many folks grab chicken sandwiches from Federal Donuts or a falafel sandwiches (and their shakes) from Goldie and sit in the park to eat. Then wander the shops walking towards Broad Street.
Need a place to relax and hang out? Spruce Street Harbor is a great place to start. Rent a hammock in the shady trees, grab some ice cream and food from the stands and look out at the city or the river. Walk your way north to Cherry Street Pier https://www.cherrystreetpier.com/ which usually has an open market for artwork and creative crafts! If you make your way to the back they have some food trucks!
Angelo's Pizzeria in Southeast Philly. Best cheesesteak in Philadelphia. **Purchases must be made with CASH - no credit cards. Expect to wait about an hour if not more for your cheesesteak.** The best things are worth the wait. Marc's recommendation: DO NOT GO TO PAT'S OR GINO'S. IT IS A TOURIST TRAP AND WASTE OF YOUR MONEY AND HEALTH. If you're going to lose some years off your life - do it right and get a cheesesteak from here.
