What should we know about Guanajuato, Mexico?
Answer
Guanajuato is the capital city of the state of Guanajuato and is a vibrant town surrounded by mountains in the heart of Mexico. We know safety may be a concern for those unfamiliar with the area, and while the state of Guanajuato has several cities with US travel precautions, Guanajuato city is very safe, peaceful, and tourist-friendly. Julia has traveled to Guanajuato multiple times over 15+ years, including solo travel and a month-long stay, and both Julia and Michael can attest to feeling very safe and welcome during their most recent trip in March 2025. What is the best airport to fly in to Guanajuato?
Answer
Bajío International Airport (BJX) in León, Guanajuato is the closest airport to Guanajuato capital. Transport by car can easily be found at the airport taxi stand, with about a 40 minute drive into Guanajuato city center. We will provide contact information for private transport recommended by our local planners at a later date for those interested in pre-arranged car service.

What does "creative colorful cocktail" attire mean?
Answer
We would love to see our guests dressed in funky and vibrant cocktail attire for the wedding, but encourage you to wear whatever makes you feel comfortable. The dress code is only intended to let guests know they are free to choose styles that might err more adventurous and showy than standard wedding convention might allow. We would like to make an extended trip in Mexico, where would you recommend?
Answer
Several guests have expressed interest in traveling to other parts of the region before or after the wedding. Popular destinations include San Miguel de Allende, which is a beautiful small town about 1.5 hours by car from Guanajuato, and Ciudad de Mexico/Mexico City which is about 4.5 hours by car or bus from Guanajuato. Julia has traveled by taxi to/from SMA and by bus to/from CDMX, and is happy to share travel recommendations or contacts for private drivers to those interested.
