On a Saturday night at good ol' Sorlie's, a party spot just miles from my home, Josh made eye contact with me but that's as far as it went. I knew of Josh through friends and our towns playing sports against each other, but had never met him. As many of you know, we're both very shy, introverts, so neither of us had the courage to start up a conversation. Josh happened to be standing by my older brother, Dylan, and asked him who I was. Later that night, after I had left, Josh's name popped up on my phone as he decided to Facebook message me. After quite a few days or even weeks of messaging through Facebook, I finalllyyyyy decided to give him my number to make it more official. We went on a couple dates throughout the summer and hung out multiple times. But, we weren't exactly sure what our near future held as Josh was heading to Gillette, Wyoming in the fall to start college and I had two years left of high school.
As the summer was coming to an end, Josh drove me back to Sorlie's for our last evening together before heading to Wyoming. Little did we know, one conversation led to the next and I talked Josh into asking me to be his girlfriend. Two young, dumb teenagers decided to start dating with 500 miles between them. The distance didn't last too long though. Josh wasn't thrilled with welding school in Gillette, so about a month or so in, he decided to pack up and head back to Harvey. Buttt, his big sister, Amber, who Josh was staying with in Gillette, thought Josh's new "girlfriend" was the reason for him dropping out of school. Needless to say, it made for an exciting first impression when meeting three of the five sisters at the Schmeets Thanksgiving that fall. And to think, now she likes me more than Josh ;) After two years of high school, four years of college, and Josh moving back down to Gillette for a job while I was in nursing school, we managed to make the long distance work! There were lots of ups and downs, and boy was it hard, but it made the time we did get together, that much more special.
After finishing nursing school, I moved down to Gillette and into Josh's lovely one bedroom apartment..... which meant getting rid of all of his things so that all of mine could fit. (haha) A year into living together, he started noticing the majority of his things were nowhere to be found. Josh once said "You're getting rid of all my stuff, and soon there won't be anything left. Next thing I know, you'll be getting rid of me!" Well, he put a stop to that plan (or maybe it was reverse psychology? My plan to get him to buy me a ring??). I think he finally caught on. It was a relaxing Sunday afternoon and we were headed to Amber's house for family supper when Josh decided to drop down on one knee in our tiny little apartment living room. I'm sure you can imagine what question spilled out of his shaky mouth. It was an easy YES from me though :)
