How We Met (His POV)

08•18•2023

A contractor just trying to do his job, 10,000 college kids trying to move in, and a cute bossy blonde chick doing a lot of pointing, running around, and struggling with a foldout tent. I told my best friend (he was 92 and still working) that by golly, this gal was about the cutest I’d seen. Unfortunately, as a contractor I couldn’t make the first move. But I could offer my assistance with her foldout tent struggle 😏 So, I couldn’t get in the building to get work done and we spent the afternoon chatting. I guess she was pretty cool 😎 But, at the end of the day I had to leave, and wrote the interaction off as a nice day. She for sure either had a boyfriend, we’d never see each other again, and if we did, she’d never make the first move. She was just being nice. Little did I know, the good Lord now had me along for one heck of a ride.

The First Move (His POV)

11•9•2023

Let’s set the scene, shall we? I’d seen the cute bossy blonde chick a few more times in Lizo, she was the president by golly, and you were gonna know about it. She had bulletin boards to take care of, events to host, and was gonna be on my butt about every mess we made, when things were gonna be fixed, and if it was actually going to work this time. This particular day, I had wandered up to the seventh floor to work on a bathroom with my boss and dad. As we’re headed down the hall, the CBBC (this time looking rather disheveled, in night shorts, hair a mess, and a tshirt that looked more like a dress) shuffled across the hall in front of us into the deep dark warmth that was her room. When she saw that it was us, she poked her little noggin out, apologized for looking so rough, and started interrogating us about when her showers were gonna be fixed. I even managed to get a smile and a “heyyy”. Keep in mind, I’m in a nasty hoodie and jeans, haven’t shaved in about a week, and am looking equally as rough. As I’m cutting her shower tile out, stuck behind two layers of plastic, not able to see or breathe, I hear my boss yelling at me to quit the grinding, I’ve got a love letter. I brushed him off at first, assuming I’d made somebody mad (it’s my greatest talent) but eventually relented and told him to pass it through. I’ll be darned if it wasn’t a note that said “Hey, I thought you were cute (the younger one)” with her phone number and Snapchat. The next day, I bought a corvette, took her to eat Mexican, and the rest is history.

The Proposal (His POV)

12•7•2024

Wow! That was quick! We started dating, going to church together, took over the youth group at church, went on vacation and got stung where the sun don’t shine by jellyfish, and got into it more than once about whether or not bacon and chipotle ranch goes onto a food before you even try it. (It does) One day I was asking her dad for his blessing, then I had bought a ring, then we went shopping for a ring, and the entire time, she and everyone else had been told that I hadn’t even asked her dad or bought the ring. It was early December, 2024. I was trying to figure out how to make it happen, but she’s a hard young woman to surprise. She’s a detective of sorts. The week leading up to it, I had employed the help of a couple friends, and the day of decided “hey, our parents might want to be a part of this” and invited them. They booked it down to Patti’s, and tried their best to not be found out. At one point, her and her dad were mere feet from each other. Talk about scary. I had managed to keep everything hidden for a while, but couldn’t get everyone where they were supposed to be. Who knew that a snow-cone and ice cream shop would be so hard to find. I finally got everyone in place, and nearly dragged her to where I wanted it to happen. And boom! It happened, she said yes, everybody’s crying and trying to get pictures, and I’m just trying to make sure I keep up with everything and pose correctly. Truly a blessing of a night, and I can never thank everyone involved enough.

Our Love Story (Her POV)

It all started on a busy college move-in day. He was working on some maintenance tasks around the dorms and got caught in the chaos of move-in traffic, unable to leave for hours. I’d noticed him before—he had that cute, quiet energy—but it wasn’t until a few weeks later that our paths crossed again. This time, he was fixing the shower directly across from my room. I’d just woken up, probably looking like a mess, but I knew this was my chance. I couldn’t help but smile at the thought of him being so close, and in that moment, I decided to do something a little bold. I slipped a note under the door, jokingly writing, “I thought you were the cute, younger one,” along with my phone number and Snapchat. The next day, he messaged me, and just like that, we set up our first date. We kept things simple—no pressure, just two people getting to know each other. That first date turned into countless more, and before we knew it, the spark between us had grown into something beautiful and undeniable. The rest, as they say, is history.
