A little story about how we got engaged: Our first night in Venice, and the last stop on our trip to Northern Italy in March. It was a beautiful arrival, with a vaporetto ride down the Grand Canal. That ride was confirmation that we had in a sense saved the best for last. It was also an anxious arrival for me. I still had Preet’s ring in my bag and while I had a plan for my proposal, I had to actually do it. Our dinner reservations that first night were at a restaurant called “Ai promessi sposi” which literally means “To the Betrothed”. By the way, it is also an Italian literary reference that I wasn’t previously aware of. (Nice restaurant by the way) Anyway I had thought of proposing that night before or after dinner in a scenic location but it just didn’t feel like quite the right time yet. The next morning we went on an early (630am) walk around our neighborhood in Venice. Venice is called La Serenissima (the most serene) and it truly deserves that name. The calm of the morning lead to almost a deafening silence which accentuated the beauty of the place. For those of you who don’t know, Preet and I love taking morning walks in the city to enjoy some of the peace before the hustle and bustle. We also love doing it on vacations, especially in Italy as the peace and calm really lets us take it all in and experience the place as it is without all of the tourists (us too) changing it into its daytime character. This walk was breathtaking and as I was searching for the perfect spot I felt more and more nervous. Seeing the local Venetians heading to work, I realized that I wanted a more private and intimate moment. I found a little bridge over a peaceful canal, told Preet how much she meant to me, and how much I loved her. She knew what I was up to but I was so happy when she said yes, and so proud to put the ring on her finger. We are now looking forward to the adventure of our lives as they unfold together, and we are so happy to celebrate us taking our next step with all of you! Salute, Tim and Preet
