Mehendi

11:00 am - 9:00 pm

Henna Day, Attire Suggestion: green or any other bright color (no black please)

Mehendi is a joyful pre-wedding celebration where traditionally, the bride's hands and feet are adorned with elaborate henna designs, believed to bring good luck, love and prosperity. Traditionally, female relatives and friends also apply henna, but in an inclusive way everyone can get their hands adorned. You are invited to join the Mehendi event in the morning with music and an intermittent home cooked lunch. The event of Mehendi itself continues uptil the evening. This is followed by application of traditional red dye on the feet called 'alta' in the evening followed by ethnic East Indian delicacies, also homecooked but rather on a sweeter side. The evening remains flexible.

Haldi

4:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Turmeric Day, Attire Suggestion: Yellow

The Haldi ceremony traditionally encompasses application of paste from turmeric, sandalwood and rosewater on bride and groom by their family and friends. Accompanied by laughter, teasing and festive songs, its a light-hearted tradition that symbolizes love and blessings for the couple. Believed to purify and ward off evil in addition to acting as a natural skin glower, there is some playing with flowers as well. The ceremony begins with an open stage, a small ring exchange, haldi cermony (applying turmeric and flowers) and ending with lots of dancing and dinner together. We would be so so happy to see you on our open stage! If you'd like to entertain us all with some dance, acrobatics, dance Baton (not looking at anyone here), a play or whatever you love doing, please let us know.

The actual wedding has an auspicious timing: clocking a little bit before noon. The wedding ceremony is preceded by the fat Indian Baraat, wherein the groom's side starts with a procession from near the home and arrives at the wedding location in style, with lots of dancing and music along the way. If you are from bride's side, do not shy away to join the 'baraat' (Edit from Julie: I recommend to join if you can, it is such a fun part of the wedding). Upon arrival, the traditional rituals take place in a lawn where in the marriage is validated. The ceremony should not last more than 1.5 hours. Refreshments would be served upon arrival and during tying the knot.
