Let's set the scene: It's August, 2017, in the hills of Southwest Virginia--two strangers swipe right. The conversation is electric--an obvious connection. Until...out of the blue, Hannah goes radio silent. She had forgotten to respond to Grant's last message before deleting the dating app. Months go by, and the strangers find each other...on a different dating app. Once again: swipe right. Excerpt from conversation: H: "We meet again!" G: "Before you go disappearing, let's meet for coffee" And that's exactly what they did. From there, they would catch each other in between Hannah's business trips. Eventually, Grant, still living in Roanoke, got a job teaching at a college in Lynchburg. Most Fridays after class, he would spiffy up in a tiny college bathroom and rush downtown to meet Hannah. It was all a blur--but somewhere between all the work trips and drives between cities, a real connection began to grow. Finally, as fate might have it, Grant secured a new job...in Lynchburg, just five minutes down the road. One mid-century home, an adopted pup, and many adventures later, Grant--using Hannah's great-grandmother's wedding ring--popped the question at the summit of Sharp Top Mountain, but not before kicking Hannah in her bum knee and dropping their only bottle of water off the side of the icy mountain. It was hilarious, sincere, memorable, and according to Hannah, slightly dehydrating and painful.
